Naturopathic treatment focuses on non-toxic measures to restore natural healing mechanisms. These may include advice on dietary adjustments, fasting (where appropriate), and applied nutrition (use of nutritional supplements); hydrotherapy (baths, packs, and compresses); exercise and relaxation; and psychological counseling. Naturopathic principles are the basis of holistic medicine.

Where individual needs dictate, naturopathic physicians may use other treatments, such as osteopathy, herbal or homoeopathic medicine, and acupuncture.
